I've already written a piece with reference to augmented reality with the rise of Pokemon Go. But having worked in and around the media industry for most of my career this interpretation really caught my eye.

I'm a big fan of National Geographic in general, until I had a toddler I used to be a subscriber when i had the time to kick back, relax and look at stunning pictures and feel bad about how little I know about the world.

Having seen the video below which showcases how augmented reality can be used to enhance a print experience I wanted to share it further.

AMENDMENT: This video has unfortunately been removed but here is something similar from Focus Magazine, published by ETT S.p.A:

augmented reality

This is awesome to look at but when reality hits publishers must consider if this is a way that consumers want to interact with the medium or if it is simply an expensive novelty. I personally would struggle to read a publication through my phone but it's amazing to see the potential of how you can bring an inanimate item to life. This technology will only get better and more engaging.

Bravo National Geographic.
